Selling Everything And Moving Across Country

My furniture.

My silverware.

My favorite New England Patriots blanket from when I was 10 years old.

Even my car.

My girlfriend and I have been debating a move like this for over a year now and finally we’re just weeks away from selling everything and moving across country!

From one side of the country to the other, we’re leaving behind the Boston, Massachusetts area and making our way west to Seattle, Washington.

Best yet, we’re driving across. Here’s our tentative route with the key stops along the way.

We’re moving for some new life experience.

We’re moving to purge all of the extra “stuff” in our lives.

We’re moving for a fresh perspective and a breath of fresh air.

Over the past couple of months we’ve been in this iterative process of slowly slimming down our apartment. First it started with the basement and attic storage, things that we otherwise never thought that we would have to look at again.

Then the decorations, the niceties, and all of those “small things” that fill up a home – the things that you never realize how much space they take up and how unnecessary they really are.

Now we’re getting into furniture and those bigger, more important pieces. Side tables, chairs, clothes, bookshelves – even my liquor cabinet has been sold off!

My office has been reduced to just my desk, absent of the side shelves, the whiteboard on the wall to brainstorm ideas, even my printer lost its stand and now just collects dust and rests in the corner of the room on the floor.

But despite our apartment looking like somewhere we can’t afford to live in, I can still go about my day as productive as I ever have. And that’s what makes this move so exciting, it’s a material cleanse of everything unnecessary.

Having less things around the house reduces distractions during the day.

Bringing this back to trading, it’s as if you were trading on a chart with a bunch of noisy indicators sending mixed messages. It’s not until you peel them off and focus on what you are really trying to accomplish, trading price, when you’ll start to understand what is really going on.

Plus it’s just much easier housekeeping.

So the move is happening at the end of the year and I expect to be settled in by mid January.

Beyond the already amazing opportunity to explore a different part of the country, I’m really excited to focus in and spend more time doing what I enjoy most.

  • Becoming a more efficient, high performing trader
  • Creating quality content, and useful ideas
  • Growing The Trade Risk and supporting members

I have lots of exciting ideas in the pipeline for the Trade Risk that I’ve been working on and I’m really excited to share them with you over the next couple of months.

So if anyone’s in the Seattle area, I’d love to connect once I’m settled in.

Oh and our dog’s coming with us too. Here he is, ready to go:
